THE INTERIORS
The interiors of The Blackwood were designed by Melbourne interior designer Justin Bishop, with lighting and electrical design by Guy Reeves. Taking their direction from the original house nearby, the interiors were conceived to feel as though The Blackwood might always have belonged here — elegant, established and quietly sophisticated.
A restrained palette of rich, earthy tones creates a warm and subtly masculine atmosphere, layered with antique and vintage furniture, cut glass, timber, leather and carefully collected objects.
The inspiration was an imagined Edwardian gentleman and his private retreat. His top hat and cane rest by the door, his books are beside the fire and his whisky sits in a cut-glass decanter on the sideboard. He appreciates traditional craftsmanship, beautifully tailored details and the comforts of a more modern world.
It is this idea that defines The Blackwood: the character and atmosphere of another era, combined with the comfort and ease of contemporary living.
